I am a stalker of away messages. You are too. Don't lie. It's not attractive.

Tonight I came across several away messages that consist of either, "I HATE SCHOOL" or "12 days til I get outta this hell hole!" Not too long ago I was in this position of finals in the future. I do believe that finals suck. But what bothered me the most about the messages is that people are counting down the days until they leave school. For some people they are only half way finished with their degree, for others there is one semester left.

While college kids are wishing to be finished so they can leave... I spend my nights wishing I didn't finish and was still there. I hope the next call to the house is the school saying there was a mix-up and I have to return. Yes, I understand that things have changed and most of the people that made it so amazing are gone. Not every minute of it was perfect. My Grandfather died the day I moved in freshman year. Mom dropped me off, and called me when she got back home to say he was gone. Sophomore year one of my best friend's left after the first semester to have a baby. Junior year, I watched the skyline of the greatest city in the world change. Two amazing human beings left the world much earlier than should have that year. Senior year I learned who my friends really are. And somewhere in this haze was Cancer, a brother moving 12 hours away, a best friend getting engaged and the first birthday of an amazing little soul.

While all that did happen, I also met Stephen Lynch three times. Worked at a TV station. Ate many pizza rolls with Stoli salads. Had a bartender pour my beer as I walked in the door. Learned how to make a movie and a TV show. Lost love. Gained love. Pulled several all nighters. Snuggled on a snow day. Watched a band go from nothing to something pretty big. Visited my brother twice. Watched my family grow up. Dropped $80 at a bar in one night. Danced on a table in a bad club in New Haven.


I could go on forever.


I guess I'm trying to say don't spend your time counting down your days, all you'll have to look back on are the numbers.
