First of all Happy Birthday to Marisa and Nicole!!
I can’t update as much as I’d like too. My computer has an attitude and due to Daddy’s busy schedule the new one wont be ready for at least 2 weeks. I do have access to roughly 5 computers in this house alone, but one is Allison’s, one is Dad’s laptop, the one in the playroom was acting silly, and the other 2 dad is fiddling with.
I have a song stuck in my head and it’s driving me crazy. Its not just one song, its one part of this song…
“If you can’t be with the one you love, then love the one you’re with.”
That’s fuckin’ bullshit. Sorry for the cursing, but it’s necessary. It truly is.
Love the one you’re with?!? Because you can’t be with the one you love!?!? Does anyone else see a HUGE fucking problem with this? “I have fucking problems. Plural” (Points if you know that movie)
Here’s the story of Erin and Mike….
Mike & Erin met in college and became very good friends throughout their 4 years at a fine institution. Freshman year, Erin, being tired of all the flirting, tells Mike, “Hey I really like you, I think about you all the time. If you return the feeling, I’d like to see what will become of us.”
Mike responds with, “Hey. I like you too, but just as friends. In my short life I’ve seen people become friends, then more than friends, then they breakup and the friendship is gone. They never again had what at one point was perfect. I don’t want to screw that up with you. I take this as a great compliment, but I’d like to be just friends.”
Erin decides that she’d rather have him in her life as a friend then to not have him in her life at all. Secretly she’s thinking, “I’ve got 4 years with this boy, I’ll change his mind yet.” Erin loves a good challenge.
Fast forward to graduation…. Erin never changed his mind, and it broke her heart. There were times when she won the battle, but she never won the war. She knows he loves her, and has a place in his heart for her. But not the kind of place that goes to Tiffany’s for rings. It’s the kind of place where he calls you to see how things are and to say the worst 6 words a girl could hear, “I love you like a sister.”
Erin can’t let go of Mike because he’s the first guy she’s said, “I love you” to and meant it. Erin hasn’t had the most exciting love life. She never dated anyone is college, while Mike had a girl each year.
Erin loves Mike. She can’t be with the one she loves, so she attempts to convince herself to love the one she’s with. Andy. The problem is not only that she has to convince herself that she loves Andy, but also that Andy loves her. It is not fair to Andy. (See where I’m going with this one?)
The song is essentially saying, someone will always get screwed, so just settle for what you have now. I don’t like that option. At all. Cinderella got her prince. Julia Roberts got Richard Gere. Meg Ryan got Tom Hanks. Twice.
I refuse to settle. Carrie once said, “Some people are settling down, some people are just settling, and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies.” I think there’d be less divorce if people just waited for the butterflies rather than listened to their biological clock.
In conclusion I hate the above song. I don’t hate anything. So this is big.
Peace…
