7.30.2003

In light of recent developments (see: http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/07/29/airline.warning/index.html ) News programs are talking about the possibility of a terrorist attack on par with September 11th.

What got me more than the possible threat was that no one calls it September 11th anymore. It's nine-eleven or 9-1-1. No. It's September Eleventh. Nowhere in history books does it say that 12/7 is a day that will live in infamy. It's December 7th. It is written out to show respect for those that fought and lost their lives that day for this country. But a mere 2 years later, the worst terrorist attack on US soil is reduced to 3 numbers.

Are we really that lazy?

Yes there are days, when I wish to do nothing more than to lie in my fluffy bed with 200 thread-count sheets with the central air on full blast rather than go outside and weed the front yard. But I dont. My dad yelling at me has nothing to do with it.

Did I know someone that died that day? Not directly. Chris lost 5 people from school. Amy lost her Aunt. My town was lucky, we only lost one or two people, the next town over lost 17 people. 17. That is just absurd. The number 17 for a death toll is crazy enough let alone close to 3,000. I wont even get started on the phrase "death toll".

There are still people that will never understand fully what happened that day. Hell I'm one of them. People fear change. When Burger King changed their french fries (not freedom fries you dolts) there was an uproar. So when the landsacpe of the greatest city in the world changes in the matter of hours you can't wrap your mind around it. Two 110 story buildings. Gone.

I don't support the war, but I do support the troops. After all if it wasn't for them you couldn't read this, let alone me writting it without severe consequenses. Solving conflict isn't as easy as Allison suggests. You can't have a lock-in at a laser tag facility. It may work for the girl-scouts, but will it work for the Israelies and Palestines? Not so much. These are the people that are taught from the day they are born to hate each other.

I guess this is part of the reason that I don't want to work in the news business. Too serious and depressing. Life is depressing enough as it is, I don't need outside help to drive the theory home.

Jay Mohr said it tonight on Last Comic Standing. "Life is rough. Wear a cup."

Peace....

"... when tragedy befalls you, don't let it drag you down. Love can cure your problem. You're so lucky I'm around. Let my love open the door to your heart."
